One of the nice aspects of Maputo is the easy availability of live entertainment. It
ranges from choirs belting out Gospel Songs in Africa Cinema to raunchy pole
dancing in Luso in Rua Bagamoyo! The real difficulty is knowing what exactly is on,
when and where. A great source of information is the Spanish Cultural Centre. Ask
Alejandro to send you his weekly email:

ICMA
ICMA is the German government's cultural
institute in Maputo. It oganises musical events,
poetry readings, theatre happenings, films and it
also has language classes which teach German
and Changana for foreigners. Changana is the
Bantu dialect which is most popular in Maputo.
Africa Bar
Africa Bar is part of the Africa Cinema
building in a central area of the city. It has
music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday
nights. Thursday night is the big night, not
because the music is better but because it
is more “sexually driven”. This is the place
and the night of the week when most male
ex-pats are to be found under one roof. This
in turn, though it may be the other way
round, attracts Mozambican girls of varying
degrees of beauty in varying degrees of
dress, or should that be undress. The
entrance is 200 Mts and the drinks are
pricey. The place had a re-vamp recently
and looks more New York than Maputo.
